Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder

Your eyes are your most magnetic feature. When two people make eye contact and are attracted to each other, their pupils dilate and it establishes the silent connection. This post will be all about how you can make your peepers look bigger, brighter, and more mesmerizing.
First of all, you need to know the makeup colours that will complement your beautiful eyes. While you could pull off basically any colour you want, there are certain colours that will always make you look even more gorgeous than you already are! Contrasting colours is the way to go - there is a scientific explanation for this involving electromagnetic waves from the visible light spectrum being absorbed, thus reflecting the complementary colour on the colour wheel… but you don’t really need to know all that!
(If you want to know, however, leave an ‘ask’ and I’ll be more than happy to give you the full detailed explanation!)

You can use the colour wheel to determine the colours most suitable for you.
BLUE EYES
Blue-eyed beauties can make their blue more piercing and ocean-deep by using eye shadows of the opposite colour family - orange, bronze, gold… any earthy colour would look AMAZING on you!
GREEN EYES
Green-eyed girls can make their eyes more enchanting by using a more intense purple shade, a plum colour, or something more on the maroon side. While the above colour wheel shows red as the opposite of the dark green colour, I would personally avoid true red eyeshadows such a brick or burgundy colour to prevent the makeup from overwhelming my eyes instead of enhancing them.
BROWN EYES
Brown eyes will look gorgeous in many different shades, since brown is a rather neutral colour. But unlike blue or green eyes which are considered “transparent” colours, brown is an opaque colour so makeup artists would usually try to create more depth with brown eyes. To make your brown eyes more mysterious and captivating, try blue-ish colours like a bright cobalt, navy, a striking violet (particularly if you have dark skin!), or a beautiful turquoise!
The ‘conventional’ way of putting on eye makeup as you may already know is to put some eyeshadow, eyeliner, curl your lashes, apply some mascara… but if you want to try something different, here’s a suggestion!
Instead of putting colour on your lids, try going for a neutral colour on your lids (such as a peachy-pink or a shimmery nude eye shadow), and using a coloured eyeliner to draw your eyes! Rather than using turquoise eyeshadow, use a beautiful bright blue eyeliner and line your eyes - I guarantee it’ll make your eyes pop!
One of my favourite juicystar07 youtube tutorials is her Strolling by the Seaside tutorial (click THIS to check it out!) and it features what I was just talking about - using a beautiful shade of blue eyeliner and neutral eyeshadow, instead of the typical blue eyeshadow and brown/black eyeliner! You may like to watch the video to see what I mean.
Some other tips you guys may find useful:
#1: To make your eyes look bigger and brighter, no matter what shape they are:
Try using white liner in the inside of your eyelids. This beauty move will DEFINITELY make your eyes look that much more alive and open! While some may choose to use fake eyelashes, I’d actually prefer using 3 coats of mascara instead of fake eyelashes, since it looks a little more natural that way (and it IS more natural!). Fake eyelashes sometimes have the effect of overwhelming your eyes too.
#2: To get rid of redness (not just around the eye area but anywhere on your face actually)
You may use concealer, but a better way would be to wrap a piece of eyecube with a small face towel and gently hold it against the red area of your face for a few seconds. Be careful not to hold it for too long or it may just make things worse!
#3: Make your eyeshadow last all day and avoid the creasing of eye makeup
One word: PRIMER! Use a good eye primer (my favourites are Urban Decay’s Primer Potion and Too-Faced Shadow Insurance) on your lids and your makeup will last for hours!
During the day, I would usually prefer to use neutral, less glittery or shimmery eye makeup, and less dramatic mascara/liner too. At night however, let the drama begin~ But you do whatever you feel best in! :)
Some eye makeup products I absolutely ADORE (this is not a sponsored post):
- Eye primers: Urban Decay Primer Potion and Too-Faced Shadow Insurance
- Eye shadows: URBAN DECAY’S NAKED PALETTE IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE!!!!!!! I can’t tell you how much I LOVE this palette. Wait let me show you a picture!

I don’t know if you guys can see how beautiful the colours look (they’re a lot more amazing in real) but check it out HERE! It’s absolutely GORGEOUS. There are 12 beautiful neutral colours, and the sexy sleek brown box comes with a great shadow brush (from their Good Karma collection), a travel-size Urban Decay Primer Potion, and a built-in mirror! What else can you ask for?!
It’s US$48 which may seem a little pricey, but really for 12 different BEAUTIFUL eye shadow colours, a primer, a brush, and the fantastic box that comes with a mirror it’s a great steal!
Other eye products I love:
- Mascara: This hasn’t been very heavily promoted, but I kinda like Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto mascara! It’s also a drugstore product and not too expensive, so I quite like it!
- Eyeliner: While most beauty gurus I’ve come across usually prefer liquid eyeliners, I’m not too good with them and they can get pretty messy. So I’m more inclined to the eye pencils, and my favourite is MAC’s eye pencils!
One last thing before I end off this extremely long post! YOUR BROWS. Eyebrows are often neglected since well, I actually don’t know why we don’t pay more attention to them! But they’re extremely crucial in framing your face and absolutely VITAL in making you look FANTASTIC instead of just great! Try plucking your eyebrows and shaping them to fit your face (lots of youtube tutorials on that), or go to a professional if you don’t dare to. You may also want to use an eye brow pencil to draw in your eyebrows to make them a little thicker and well defined :) Be careful not to pluck or draw too much - you don’t want to overdo them!
That’s all babes! Like my post if you think it’s good, comment by leaving an ask, and follow if you haven’t already done so! :)
Love, peace, and joy to all of you out there xx
